Join us as we meet bright and early to hike the Basin Trail. The trail entrance is at the Fort Fisher State Park office, 1000 Loggerhead Rd, Kure Beach. The parking lot is located on the left just before you enter the Ft. Fisher Aquarium entrance.

This trail meanders through the marsh, allowing hikers a chance to view soundside flora and fauna and the maritime forest. You might see deer! The trail passes a World War II bunker, where the "Ft. Fisher hermit", Robert Harrell, lived for more than a decade. At the end is a wooden observation deck with wide views of the Cape Fear River and Zeke's Island, making it a great spot for watching birds and boats. You might see a giant container ship! The trail begins at the park office. An out-and-back hike is 2.2 miles long. Portions of the trail are on a sandy beach, a wooden boardwalk, and on a natural surface. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your water bottle. A park ranger is scheduled to walk with us.

After the hike, we will stop for breakfast (on your own and optional) at the Gulfstream Restaurant, a hidden coastal gem at 78 Myrtle Avenue, Carolina Beach. The Gulfstream has been a year-round favorite of locals and also a popular choice for vacationers for over 40 years. Gulfstream is a family restaurant with something for everyone from traditional seafood to classic home cooking plus chef-inspired specials. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and daily specials. Breakfast options are available all day.

The faces serving you at Gulfstream are as familiar as the menu favorites since many of the staff have been with them for decades.
